On Wednesday, October 24, 2007 the UNT Student Senate passed Bill F2007-07, entitled "SGA Supports The Chiapas Project."

In the bill, SGA recognized that the University of North Texas is the first university in the nation to partner with Chiapas.

The Chiapas Project is a nonprofit organization designed to help improve the lives of women and families in some of the world's poorest countries, as well as to protect the environment by removing toxic chemicals from waters by recycling ink cartridges and cell phones.

In addition, the Student Government Association has agreed to make the Chiapas Project/Recycle to Eradicate Poverty their official community service project for this school year.
